PalletPal® Level Loader Increases Productivity While Reducing Fatigue
A leading manufacturer of porcelain electric insulators produces a broad line ranging in types
and sizes from small, five pound units to insulators weighing several hundred pounds. The heavier insulators are handled with powered lifting equipment, while the smaller sizes are handled manually. Loading and unloading on skids stacked four or five feet high involves considerable stretching and bending on the part of workers. At inspection stations, workers would be required to lift insulators from near floor level, which became a physically demanding job.
Ergonomic Solution
After seeing a Southworth PalletPal® Level Loader demonstration, the company
quickly realized that this equipment would resolve ergonomic issues. The PalletPal consists of a rugged, tubular steel frame incorporating heavy duty springs. The springs are calibrated to keep specific pallet loads at heights most convenient for loading and unloading. As loads are added or removed, it automatically lowers or rises to maintain the desired height. It is also designed with a turntable pallet platform that rotates to provide near-side loading or unloading—a feature that minimizes stretching, reaching or the need for a worker to walk around the unit.
